I just ran across this interview with David Lynch that provides a great quote for me to sort of summarize what my intention was with starting this blog.

Do you ever go back and watch your old films?
Sometimes. My son Riley hadn’t seen them before, so I saw them all with him recently. It’s the same way with my older paintings—it’s sometimes good to go back and look at your old stuff. It’s just like the idea box. You might see something that you did way back when, and some part of that can feed into the work you’re doing right now and jump-start it.

SXSW was amazing! There I am looking real nervous for the Q and A session after my film screened for the first time. It was so incredible to see it with an audience. I'm going to guess based on the capacity of the theater and appearance of very few if any empty seats that approximately 200 people were there. I sat next to my mom.
The other films in the program were really interesting. I was proud to be among them.

This is an oldie, but goodie. Filmed in 2003 in Austin. I met the singer Jason when I was working at Fresh Plus Deli in Clarksville to make a little extra cash in between my third and fourth year of college. He was making some pretty cool music, and asked me to do a video. The result is one of my first experiences with animation. I clipped some real building blueprints and made them fly all over the damn place. The video is pretty weird, but I think the band was happy.

Great News! When I decided to start a blog looking over all of my past work my fingers were tightly crossed that my latest film, The Big Fiddle would be met with some success consequently giving some of this old work some new meaning to both myself and the folks who have supported me over the years. Well, I am very proud to announce that it has been accepted into the SXSW Film Festival and will have its world premiere in Austin this March. To celebrate I am posting my favorite outtake. Hope you enjoy.

When I said I will post everything I have ever done on this blog, I meant it. This might be the earliest film project of mine that still exists. Sophomore year of college. Video Production 101. I remember I had a crush on this girl in the class, but of course never talked to her. After I screened this film she turned and said to me: "I really like that kind of stuff." I'm not sure what kind of stuff this is, but that made me really happy. My ego tells me there is a certain strange brilliance to all of my little projects. This one is no exception.

I joined No Man No Eyes back in late September. My friends Wes and Peter had been writing songs for a while and wanted to form a band that could add more to them, play them live, etc. It's been alot of fun so far. This video comes from our third show at Bruar Falls in Brooklyn.
Also, Peter and Wes wrote the score to one of my shorts, Maybe It's the Weather, which I will be posting soon.

The film where the blog gets it title from. This was my college thesis film... well, sort of. I was taking Film Production 3 at Emerson College as a Junior. The class is set up to work in groups. At the beginning of the semester you pitch your ideas and the class votes on three films to make during the class. Mine didn't get picked. I signed up to be the editor, and also the equipment guy- I would be responsible for checking all of the camera, lights and sound stuff out and returning it for every shoot. I wanted to make my own damn film, and well I did. Here it is. Weird as hell. It marks my first time working with Stephanie Wagenman. She appears in two more of my finished projects, and also has agreed to star in my current project.

This is out of order and not technically a project per se, but it's kind of ridiculous and I just found it.
When I moved to New York in 2005 I got off the train heading in to Brooklyn from Long Island (long story why I ended up flying in to Long Island) at Jamaica, Queens. I had no idea what the hell I was doing, and I had tons of luggage. A gypsy cab driver approached me, and we ended up making quick friends. I can't remember his name to save my life now, but I agreed to help him with some video work for his upstart website. Each person we interviewed was encouraged to say something about me so I put together this montage of shining endorsements from the people of Jamaica, Queens. The best part is at the end where you can tell I've taken quite a liking to the young lady he drives to work everyday.

This is one of my earliest video projects ever. Done up in Boston while I was at Emerson College. I lived with all these guys in a big giant house. I wanted to capture the energy of the band, and some of the fun of living there while also showing some of the moodier sides of that shitty student neighborhood. I love the montage towards the end. It's pretty ridiculous to have credits on a music video as my friend Joe pointed out when we watched this recently. Oh well, kind of the point of this blog right- you learn from your dorky ass mistakes.

This is something I've wanted to do for a while: have a place to post all of my previous film work and look back with nostalgia and sometimes embarrassment. Hopefully it will show some development, and along with each new project I can add all the little bits and pieces that make up the final product and have my whole body of work in one place. I also plan to post some photos and random thoughts as I go.
